Of Burritos and Busking

Van life.

During our 26 hours together in the van en route to Austin there were a lot of pit stops like these (Dayton, Ohio pictured).  I, for one, lived off off the bean burritos being consumed here for the majority of our journey (buy three for $3, eat 2, save one for later).  Spending that much time with one another in such a small space really makes you appreciate those brief moments when you get a chance to stretch your legs and explore space.  Oddly enough, as pictured here, you often find yourself uncomfortably close to someone anyways.  Call it conditioning…

Busking

Between the never ending supply of rad day parties and police warnings (we weren’t allowed to use battery powered PA speakers in the street – who the fuck made that rule?), we busked on corners throughout the city.  One of my fondest memories of SX is picking up a guitar and playing tunes for passers by, some who would stop to listen or others who would simply share a quick smile.  It was great being surrounded by so many like minded people.  And of course, it’s always nice when you get to perform with your friends.

Hands & Teeth SXSW Showcase Saturday March 17th 2012

We arrived in Austin on the Monday and weren’t scheduled to perform our “official” showcase until the Saturday.  As you can imagine, there was some obvious anticipation.  After seeing so many great shows throughout the week, meeting so many awesome people, and thoroughly enjoying the best of what Austin has to offer, this picture was taken approximately 1 minute before we started our set from the stage at 512 Rooftop.  It was pretty rad seeing all of the people in the street and feeling the cool Texas breeze on your neck before striking your first chord.  Ladies & gentlemen, we’ve reached the summit…
